Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta: Price and the Most Expensive Pagani Cars

The Zonda HP Barchetta price is €15 million, or roughly $17.5 million, a figure Pagani confirmed to Top Gear in July 2018. At that confirmed price, it is the most expensive Pagani car ever sold new, and at launch it was among the priciest new cars of any brand. Only three were built, one of them for Horacio Pagani himself, and the other two were reportedly already spoken for. So if you were hoping to place an order, the queue closed before it opened.

The Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is also a lovely contradiction. In an era of hybrid hypercars and paddle shifters, it is a roofless, 789 hp, naturally aspirated V12 with a six-speed manual gearbox, built to close the book on a car that started life in 1999. The money buys no turbos, no screens full of apps and no roof. What it buys is the last word in a story that Horacio Pagani began writing with the Zonda.

In this guide, we’ll cover the Pagani Barchetta price and why it costs so much, the story of the three cars and the 2022 crash that made headlines, the full specs, and how it compares with every other Pagani that makes the “most expensive Pagani” conversation.

What Is the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta?

The Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is a limited-run, open-top special edition of the Zonda, the car that launched Pagani in 1999 and went on to span two decades, with around 140 cars built by 2019 including development mules. “Barchetta” is Italian for “little boat”, the old name for a small open-bodied sports car, and the name fits: there is no roof, no folding hood and no canvas top, only a short, wrap-around windscreen between the driver and the sky. The “HP” stands for Horacio Pagani’s initials.

Pagani revealed it as a surprise at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2017. It was not on the public schedule, and it arrived 18 years after the first Zonda. The car was developed by Pagani’s special projects side, known as Uno di Uno, which builds one-off cars for individual clients. Pagani describes it as marking the end of Zonda production, although the company has made similar claims before, and special Zondas have continued to appear since.

Pagani built it as a greatest-hits Zonda. The oval air intake above the seats comes from the Zonda 760, the rear wing and diffuser from the Zonda Cinque, and the rear lights and rear wheel-arch covers from the Zonda ZoZo, while the seats come from the newer Huayra. It is a Zonda that remembers everything that came before it.

Zonda HP Barchetta Price: How Much Does It Cost?

The Zonda HP Barchetta price is €15 million, which works out to about $17.5 million. Pagani did not announce a price at the 2017 reveal, and reports from that time say prices were not disclosed. The figure came a year later, when Pagani confirmed €15 million to Top Gear in July 2018, and Jalopnik, among others, reported it as $17.5 million. If you have searched for the Pagani Zonda HP price or the Pagani Barchetta price, that is the number you will keep finding. None of the reports says whether it includes taxes.

Why Does the Zonda HP Barchetta Cost So Much?

Pagani publishes no cost breakdown, so this is an explanation rather than an invoice. Three things drive the price. The first is scarcity: with only three cars and one of them staying with Horacio Pagani, the supply for buyers is two. The second is the build. The Barchetta came out of Uno di Uno, the Pagani division that builds one-off cars for clients, and the bodywork is blue-tinted carbon fibre, the same carbon-titanium material used on the Huayra BC and Huayra Roadster. The third is the drivetrain: a naturally aspirated Mercedes-AMG V12 and a six-speed manual are a combination that very few manufacturers still build, and it is a large part of the car’s appeal.

At the time, Jalopnik pointed out that the Barchetta cost more than the Rolls Royce Sweptail, reported at about $13 million, and called it probably the most expensive new car ever. That title did not last. Rolls-Royce’s Boat Tail, speculated at $28 million, and the La Rose Noire Droptail, reported at about $30 million, came later. But among Paganis, no other model sold new has matched the Barchetta’s price.

What Is the Zonda HP Barchetta Worth Today?

One 2024 report put the estimated value at about $17 million, which is roughly where it started. We found no public record of a Barchetta changing hands, so any resale figure is an estimate rather than a transaction.

The Story Behind the Three Zonda HP Barchettas

Horacio’s Own Car

One of the three cars stayed with Horacio Pagani, and it was the first one the world saw. It wears blue-tinted carbon fibre, an ivory interior with blue tartan inserts, and a blue steering wheel with prominent wood trim. In July 2018, it led a convoy of Paganis from the company’s UK headquarters in north London to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The other two went to customers whom Pagani has not named.

A word of caution on a story you may have read elsewhere. Several outlets describe the Barchetta as a gift for Horacio Pagani’s 60th birthday. But Horacio was born on 10 November 1955, which put his 60th birthday in 2015, two years before the car appeared, so we have left that story out. What the sources do agree on is the other anniversary: the car arrived 18 years after the first Zonda.

The 2022 Croatia Crash

On 2 September 2022, one of the Barchettas made headlines for the wrong reasons. The car had arrived in Zagreb, Croatia, the day before for a Supercar Owners Circle gathering. While following an Apollo IE at a distance, it lost rear-end control and collided with oncoming traffic on a narrow road, at what the report describes as low speed. No injuries were reported. The damage was concentrated on the driver’s side, where the wheel arches were destroyed and the impact tore off the rear suspension.

The ending is better than the opening. According to a 2024 report, Pagani repaired the car at its own factory over roughly two years, replacing every damaged part with a new one from Pagani, and the car was seen on pre-delivery test drives ahead of its return to its owner. At this price, even a mistake gets a proper restoration.

Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta Specs, Design and Performance

The numbers below are the ones most sources agree on. One warning first: early reports got the engine wrong. Some outlets guessed that the Barchetta used the twin-turbo V12 from the Huayra BC, and the first power estimates ranged from 700 to 760 hp. Pagani confirmed 789 hp to Top Gear in 2017, and later reports, including Jalopnik’s correction, describe a 7.3-litre naturally aspirated V12.

Design

The Barchetta looks like a Zonda that has been told to take its hat off. There is no roof of any kind, only a short, thin windscreen that wraps around the cabin like a helmet visor. Pagani kept a roof scoop anyway, which is a rather cheeky detail for a car with no roof. Carbon-fibre fairings cover the rear wheels, a large fixed rear wing sits at the back, and the forged wheels carry different coloured inlays on the left and right sides. Inside, you get an ivory and blue colour scheme with tartan accents and a part-wood steering wheel.

It is also a rare thing in 2026: a hypercar that weighs about 1,250 kg and has no turbos. At that weight it is only about 30 kg heavier than the Huayra BC, which Top Gear lists at 1,218 kg, and it matches the BC’s 789 hp without forced induction. For the three people who own one, the point is not the lap time. It is the sound of a naturally aspirated 7.3-litre V12 behind your head, with the sky above and a gear lever in your hand.

Most Expensive Pagani Cars: Ranked by Price

The Pagani most expensive car, by price when new, is the Zonda HP Barchetta at €15 million. Second place goes to the roofless Huayra Codalunga Speedster, and after that the prices fall quickly into the single-digit millions. The Pagani costliest car list below uses the prices reported when each model was new. Pagani rarely publishes price lists, so treat them as reported figures, and note that some exclude taxes.

ModelPrice when newUnits
Zonda HP Barchetta€15 million (about $17.5 million)3
Huayra Codalunga Speedster€11 million; tax not stated10
Huayra CodalungaFrom €7 million (about $7.4 million), excluding tax5
Huayra Tricolore€5.5 million, excluding taxes3 for customers, plus 1 prototype
Huayra ImolaAbout $5.4 million5 for customers, plus 1 prototype
Utopia (coupé)From $2.19 million99

The Imola Roadster, limited to eight cars, is missing from the table because its price has not been confirmed; estimates run around €4 million to €5 million.

The Most Expensive Pagani Ever Sold Second-Hand

If you mean the most expensive Pagani car ever sold at auction, the record belongs to a one-off Zonda 760 LM Roadster, which sold at RM Sotheby’s Dubai in December 2024 for just over $11 million. A 2014 Zonda S Roadster converted to Le Mans specification with 60 new components, it is a one-of-one and had around 5,968 miles on the clock.

Then there is the rumour. In late 2025, a website called The Trillionaire Life reported, citing unnamed sources, that Horacio Pagani’s personal Zonda Cinque Roadster, the fifth and last of five, had changed hands in a private sale for $28 million. Neither Pagani nor the buyer has confirmed it, and we have found no independent source. If it is true, it would be the most expensive Pagani transaction on record. Until then, it is a rumour, and the Barchetta remains the most expensive Pagani car confirmed.

The Final Lap: Why the Barchetta Matters

The Zonda HP Barchetta price, €15 million or about $17.5 million, is easy to quote and hard to justify on paper. It has no roof, no turbos, no hybrid system and no automatic gearbox. But Pagani was never selling a spec sheet. It was selling the last word on a car that began in 1999, built in a batch of three, with a naturally aspirated V12 and a manual gearbox in a world that is quietly giving up on both.

That is why the Barchetta tops every list of the most expensive Pagani cars, and why it will probably keep that spot for a long time. The Codalunga Speedster, the Tricolore and the Utopia are all extraordinary machines. None of them is the Zonda’s farewell.
